Every element has a unique role assigned to it that makes the driving experience smooth. Here are a few tyre parts and a role that one must know. 

Inner Liner


The inner liner is made from a synthetic rubber called butyl. One of its crucial advantages is its capacity to tolerate acids, alkalis and oxidising agents. It is a water and air resistant layer that tends to take the place of the inner tube in tubeless tyres. This layer protects external particles like air or water to reach the internal component of the tyre.


Tread


Tread is the thick rubber layer that eventually comes into contact with the roads directly.


One of the main purposes of this part is to protect the other parts of the tyre, like the belt or the carcass from any possible damage. The tread comprises 4 components, namely grooves, sipes, lugs and voids. There are different kinds of tread patterns available in the tyres, depending upon the purpose for which they are designed.

Sidewall


The sidewall is the portion between the bead and the tread, where the details about the manufacturing of the same are specified. It comprises a blend of rubber, fibre and steel that provides the requisite power to pull off the entire weight of the car. It provides protection against various factors ranging from scratches, temperature changes to other chemical agents.


Carcass


The carcass is the internal layer beneath the tread, which sustains the load and absorbs all the tremors. This layer is made up of fibre and must be hard enough to withstand extreme heat and stretching. One of its key functions is thus to keep the tyre in proper shape under pressure. Very similar to the bead, this part also plays an essential role to prevent any air leaks from the tyre. A passenger vehicle will generally have 1-3 layers of the carcass, being 1-1.5mm thick.


Belt 


Belt refers to the metallic cord that lies between the carcass and the tread.
